About the position

As a full-time Assistant Store Manager at Famous Footwear, you will play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional shoe store experience for families through active customer engagement. In the absence of the Store Manager, you will take on the leadership role, motivating your team to achieve sales targets and growth goals. Your passion for shoes and the retail environment will shine through as you create a culture where customers feel valued and loyal to your store and our brands. You will be responsible for staying updated on product trends and ensuring that your team is well-educated about the offerings, fostering an environment where customers are excited to shop. Your primary focus will be to inspire the customer connection by fostering a culture of integrity and camaraderie among associates. You will coach your team on effective selling behaviors that enhance customer relationships and operational excellence. Additionally, you will actively seek out and network with exceptional talent to build a strong team that is dedicated to providing top-notch customer experiences. Collaborating with the Store Manager, you will participate in the hiring process, ensuring that each new hire aligns with the store's values and goals. Operationally, you will ensure that the store runs smoothly by mastering retail fundamentals, from pricing to inventory management. You will support staffing levels based on the Store Manager's guidelines, considering peak days and seasonal hiring needs. Your accountability for sales goals will drive you to analyze performance metrics and apply insights to improve results continually. As a culture builder, you will promote diversity and inclusivity within the team, ensuring that every associate feels respected and valued. Your leadership will be characterized by a positive mindset, even in challenging situations, and you will lead by example to enhance team engagement and retention. When the Store Manager is away, you will step into their role, further developing your leadership skills and ensuring compliance with company policies and programs. Your ability to assess team strengths and opportunities will be vital in developing internal talent alongside the Store Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire associates to foster a culture of caring and camaraderie focused on customer relationships and operational excellence.
  • Seek out and network with exceptional external talent to elevate the store's sales growth.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to interview and hire individuals passionate about customer experiences.
  • Ensure daily retail operations run smoothly, including pricing, shipping processing, and inventory management.
  • Support staffing levels set by the Store Manager, considering associate availability and peak days.
  • Drive sales with purpose and accountability for achieving goals and improving results.
  • Promote a work environment where diversity and inclusivity are valued, ensuring all associates feel included and respected.
  • Step into the Store Manager's role when they are away, maintaining high standards and compliance with company policies.
  • Assess team strengths and opportunities to develop internal talent in partnership with the Store Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • At least 1 year of sales experience, preferably in retail sales.
  • Experience in interviewing, hiring, and training staff.
  • Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop associates for an engaging customer experience.
  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced working knowledge of general retail practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, nights, weekends, and extended hours.
  • Basic computer skills.
