About the position

The Assistant Store Manager at Petsense is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in all aspects of retail operations. This includes providing leadership to the store team, ensuring a positive customer experience, and overseeing operational activities. The role requires a focus on maintaining a safe and productive work environment while training team members on policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in driving sales and profit, customer loyalty, and planning daily tasks.
• Support Store Manager in Team Member counseling, hiring, scheduling, and training.
• Execute merchandising activities including basic, promotional, and seasonal tasks.
• Perform opening and closing procedures for the store.
• Transport and make deposits to the bank as needed.
• Assess store conditions and assign duties to team members.
• Organize and prioritize workflow using a daily planner.
• Participate in the mandatory freight process and perform regular price changes.
• Resolve customer complaints and ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarm calls as necessary.
• Communicate job functions and responsibilities to Team Members.
• Operate cash register and supervise cash handling procedures.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals in the store.

Requirements

• Previous retail leadership experience is required.
• Experience with pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
