About the position

The Assistant Store Manager at Goodwill of Central Iowa is responsible for managing and coaching retail employees while ensuring the store meets its key performance indicators (KPIs) and revenue targets. This role emphasizes excellent customer service, effective team management, and adherence to the organization's values of love, kindness, and respect. The position also involves training employees, managing store processes, and supporting the mission of Goodwill by promoting purposeful employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, train, and coach store employees to achieve sales and production goals.
  • Assist in managing store processes effectively to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual KPIs.
  • Train and coach employees using various platforms including in-person and online methods.
  • Utilize technology such as Microsoft Office, Point of Sales systems, and HRIS to monitor and track store metrics.
  • Analyze expenses, production, and sales to achieve revenue goals.
  • Participate in monthly financial calls and complete regular KPI reports.
  • Provide work performance feedback to employees based on Goodwill's values.
  • Communicate within the store through team meetings and written materials.
  • Support the Mission department and activities through promotional programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to customer needs promptly.
  • Assist in managing sorting, pricing, and rotating merchandise processes.
  • Monitor and manage safety processes in collaboration with the Store Manager and Safety Specialist.
  • Complete employee actions within the HRIS and monitor training progress.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 months of related full-time paid employment, including at least 6 months of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in retail management preferred, with softlines and hardlines experience being a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to run cash registers and use various technology systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to perform basic math and work under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Goodwill retail store is preferred.
  • CPR Certification is a plus.
