About the position

The Assistant Structural Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for a variety of projects. These projects include power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The role involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. The Assistant Structural Engineer will assist in the structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through to design completion, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary requirements and standards. In this position, the Assistant Structural Engineer will modify and review production drawings for various projects, including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental and military facilities. The role requires applying basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry. The Assistant will also assist with research and compile project-related data as required by project managers, ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date. Additionally, the Assistant Structural Engineer will be involved in client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for the design of various facilities. The role may also include performing field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients. The Assistant Structural Engineer will be expected to comply with all company policies and standards while performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in creating designs for various projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, and military facilities.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects.
  • Assist in the structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Apply knowledge of structural engineering concepts, principles, and codes.
  • Compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using CAD software.
  • Assist with client presentations and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is required for certain candidates.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques and principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA).
  • Basic skills in AutoCAD and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
