About the position
The Assistant Superintendent at Vaughn Construction plays a crucial role in on-site field supervision, ensuring that construction activities comply with established procedures, project plans, specifications, and shop drawings. This position involves coordinating trade installations, training personnel, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for supervising construction workers, foremen, and trade contractor employees, while fostering a positive company image and adhering to core values.
Responsibilities
- Inspect construction activities for compliance with quality procedures and project specifications.
- Enforce Vaughn's safety program and OSHA rules consistently.
- Provide technical assistance, including interpretation of drawings and recommended construction methods.
- Coordinate trade and associated installations to mitigate conflicts.
- Review plans, specifications, and shop drawings prior to performing assigned duties.
- Communicate positively with employees and collaborate with project management and safety teams.
- Train foremen and workers on policies, procedures, and core values.
- Develop professional relationships with clients and design teams to ensure project success.
- Ensure compliance with project procedures by all on-site personnel.
- Prepare time sheets, daily construction reports, and labor projections accurately and timely.
- Work with project management on status reports and labor/material projections.
- Assist in schedule development and maintenance for timely installations.
- Implement an effective job site communications plan.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of four years of construction experience, with at least three years in a supervisory role.
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, and laboratory projects preferred.
- Experience with self-performing work in excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting or beating project schedules.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with commercial general contracting.
- Knowledge of construction technology, equipment, and methods.
