About the position

The Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) Assistant Teacher at Ozarks Technical Community College is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and activities for young children. This role involves creating a nurturing classroom environment that promotes best practices and an anti-bias curriculum, ensuring the holistic development of each child. The Assistant Teacher will also mentor practicum students and collaborate with families to assess and support children's developmental progress.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the classroom environment when the Lead Teacher is not present.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to direct work study and practicum students, aides, and volunteers.
  • Assist with classroom curriculum development and implementation based on approved guidelines.
  • Prepare the learning environment, including setting up learning centers and preparing materials.
  • Mentor practicum students and facilitate their learning.
  • Record daily observations of children's behavior and activities.
  • Communicate with families regarding children's progress and development.
  • Assist with the arrival of children and help them select activities of interest.
  • Supervise activities of children in a safe and enriching environment.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete required professional development training.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in early childhood development or education with at least 12 college credit hours in the early childhood field.
  • One year of classroom experience in an early childhood or early elementary setting.
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to pass a TB test and medical physical as required by state regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite for professional productivity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood development, education, or a related field.
  • Experience in a child development laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with COR Advantage assessment and High Scope Curriculum.
  • Experience with adult supervision and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
