About the position

The Assistant Teacher at Flying Colors Learning Center is responsible for creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that encourages children to reach their full potential across emotional, physical, social, and intellectual domains. This part-time position requires a commitment to guiding and developing children daily in a loving and gentle manner. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with lead teachers and other staff to ensure compliance with minimum standards, fire safety, and health department regulations. Maintaining positive relationships with parents and ensuring the classroom environment is orderly and conducive to learning are also key responsibilities. In this role, the Assistant Teacher must assist any teacher in need of help without exception. It is crucial to maintain appropriate child-to-teacher ratios and to inform management if a teacher goes into ratio with only one teacher present. When assigned to a classroom without the lead or assistant teacher, the Assistant Teacher will be responsible for conducting health and safety checks, completing daily reports, and following lesson plans. If lesson plans are not available, it is essential to notify management immediately. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine love for children, strong time management skills, and a commitment to their work. They should be responsible, efficient, punctual, and able to work well in a team environment. Customer service orientation and the ability to handle difficult encounters with parents and children are also important competencies for this position.

  • Conduct health checks, safety checks, and daily reports when assigned to a classroom without lead or assistant teacher
  • Follow lesson plans and notify management if lesson plans are unavailable

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience in early childhood education preferred
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • Child Development Associate Certification preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Good reading/writing skills
