About the position

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in delivering developmentally appropriate educational activities for a diverse group of children, including those with disabilities. This role focuses on ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of children while maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment and setting up interest centers.
  • Responsible for daily opening and/or closing duties for the classroom.
  • Cleans and sanitizes classroom equipment, toys, and supplies according to NAEYC guidelines.
  • Diapers and toilets children according to NAEYC guidelines.
  • Ensures daily safety and supervision of children using Active Supervision.
  • Maintains the environment, materials, and equipment in good condition and reports issues to administration.
  • Completes developmentally accurate anecdotal notes weekly for assigned children.
  • Fills out illness/incident reports as necessary.
  • Collaborates with ancillary personnel to include children with disabilities.
  • Acts as classroom lead teacher in the absence of the assigned lead teacher.
  • Represents center philosophy to parents and visitors.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures in the Teacher Handbook.
  • Maintains all training requirements, including CPR/First Aid.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Child Development Associate (CDA) certification required.
  • Must complete Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Complete DECAL and NAEYC child care training and additional training specific to curriculum and intervention programs.
  • Knowledgeable of best practices related to licensing regulations, the Creative Curriculum, Quality Rated, and NAEYC standards.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a structured educational setting with children from birth to five years old.
