About the position

The Assistant Teacher position at the University of New Hampshire is designed to support regular classroom teachers in delivering high-quality early childhood education programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners. This role involves assisting in the preparation and implementation of educational activities, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to the development of young children. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with lead teachers to create engaging lesson plans, facilitate classroom activities, and maintain a safe and nurturing environment for all children in the classroom. In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Assistant Teacher will be required to complete New Hampshire Child Care Program Licensing requirements, which include obtaining CPR and First Aid certifications. The position demands a strong commitment to the well-being and development of children, as well as the ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role, such as lifting and moving children and classroom materials. The Assistant Teacher will also be expected to maintain effective communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on children's progress and addressing any concerns that may arise. The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, child development, or a related field, along with at least one year of experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting. Responsibilities

  • Assist regular classroom teachers in preparing and delivering early childhood programs.
  • Support the implementation of educational activities for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners.
  • Maintain a safe and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Complete NH Child Care Program Licensing requirements and obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding children's progress.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, child development, or equivalent (60 college credits with 30 in ECE or related fields).
  • One year of experience and/or supervised internships working with young children in a school or center.
  • Ability to complete NH Child Care Program Licensing requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid training certification.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work as required.
  • Computer skills as required by the department.
