About the position

The Assistant Teacher position at North Idaho College Head Start is a part-time role located in Sandpoint, designed to support the Classroom Teacher in implementing a comprehensive child development program. This position is integral to the Head Start mission and aligns with the organization's five-year goals while adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations. The Assistant Teacher will work under general direction, assisting in the delivery of educational and developmental services to children in a preschool setting. The role requires a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment that promotes the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children from diverse backgrounds. The Assistant Teacher will engage with children in various activities, helping to create a nurturing and stimulating atmosphere conducive to learning. Responsibilities include supporting the Classroom Teacher in planning and executing daily activities, maintaining a safe and clean classroom environment, and ensuring that all interactions with children are positive and developmentally appropriate. The Assistant Teacher will also be expected to communicate effectively with families, providing updates on their child's progress and addressing any concerns that may arise. This position is part-time, with a maximum of 19.5 hours per week, and is scheduled from July to June. The starting pay range for this role is between $17.40 and $18.42 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. The Assistant Teacher will be required to maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid, and must pass a background check prior to starting work. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Classroom Teacher in implementing a comprehensive child development program.

Requirements

  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds CDA requirements, or enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • Experience as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom.
  • Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
  • Maintain current Infant/Child & Adult CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with families and children from diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of commonly used computer software programs including data collection systems.
