About the position

The Teacher Assistant (TA) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a curriculum that adheres to best practice performance standards, as well as other relevant standards. This position involves working closely with the lead teacher to develop and execute a curriculum that meets the educational needs of children in the program. The TA is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Department of Child, Youth and Families (DCYF) childcare regulations, Head Start regulations, and Pre-K regulations, which are essential for maintaining the quality and safety of the educational environment. Daily responsibilities include making observations regarding the health and well-being of children, reporting any conditions that require attention, and maintaining progress notes that document the emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of assigned children. The TA will also communicate regularly with staff to discuss the individual needs of each child, ensuring that all children receive the support they require to thrive. In addition to these core responsibilities, the TA will collaborate with the Mentor-Coaching Team to implement strategies that foster the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of each child. Participation in four parent-teacher conferences per year is expected, with a preference for conducting two conferences in the home and two at the educational site. The role may also include miscellaneous duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the educational program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of a curriculum based on best practice standards.
  • Ensure compliance with DCYF childcare, Head Start, and Pre-K regulations.

Requirements

  • For TA1: High school degree or equivalent minimum.
  • For TA2: CDA minimum.
  • For TA3: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education minimum or bachelor's degree in a related field such as child study, child psychology, early childhood special education, elementary education, or nursing.
  • Ability to organize and plan activities and establish supportive relationships with children.
  • Basic computer skills for data input and email usage.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform strong outreach.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education best practices.
