About the position

The Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University is a non-tenure-track position focused on teaching foundational courses in architecture and interior design. The role involves coordinating design studios, advising students, and contributing to the department's service and curriculum development. The faculty member will engage in a collaborative and innovative teaching environment, emphasizing experiential learning and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the second-year design studio for architecture and interior design students.
  • Teach one design studio and two seminar/lecture format support courses per semester.
  • Contribute to the BA Architecture and NAAB accredited Master of Architecture and CIDA accredited Interior Design Program.
  • Engage with students in a studio-based culture of experiential learning.
  • Participate in student recruitment and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Architecture or a closely related field by the date of appointment.
  • Minimum of five years of creative/professional experience in design (consideration may be given to candidates with a strong design portfolio).
  • Architectural professional license is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in studio and seminar-based design teaching and studio coordination.
  • Experience in digital design and responsiveness to emerging technologies.
  • Commitment to human-centered work and socially/environmentally responsible design principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in student recruitment and community engagement.
  • Record of professional development in architecture or design.
