Assistant Team Leader

About the position

The position assists the Team Leader in managing daily operations at Whole Foods Market, focusing on profitability, expense control, merchandising, and regulatory compliance. The role involves leading and developing team members while ensuring a positive company image through excellent customer service. The position requires adherence to store Standard Operating Procedures and supports the core values and goals of Whole Foods Market.

Responsibilities

• Assists Team Leader in daily operations including profitability, expense control, and regulatory compliance.
• Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising.
• Works with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets.
• Assists in analysis of sales reports and labor.
• Demonstrates advanced product knowledge and maintains awareness of new products.
• Maintains good vendor relationships and ensures proper paperwork for vendor processing.
• Functions as point person in the absence of Team Leader.
• Sets and achieves high standards of retail execution.
• Encourages a positive environment of teamwork and morale.
• Communicates and models WFM vision and goals consistently.
• Maintains awareness of customer flows and directs Team Members to satisfy customer needs.
• Selects, trains, develops, and mentors Team Members to sustain a high-performance team.
• Provides timely and thoughtful performance evaluations.

Requirements

• 18+ months retail Team Member experience
• 6+ months of supervisory experience
• High energy and enthusiasm for products and company values
• Growth mindset towards responsibility and ownership
• Desire to coach and mentor others
• Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
• Capable of teaching in a positive manner
• Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies
• Proficient mathematical skills for financial performance assessment
• Demonstrated decision-making and leadership skills
• Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
