About the position

The Assistant Technical Designer at DICK'S Sporting Goods plays a crucial role in supporting the design and technical aspects of private brand apparel products. This entry-level position involves assisting Technical Designers with fit development, tech pack creation, and competitive analysis, while learning about garment construction and maintaining design integrity. The role emphasizes collaboration with internal teams and overseas vendors to ensure timely and accurate product development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Technical Designers with design, line development, and product specifications.
  • Prepare for fit sessions by measuring and preparing samples.
  • Schedule model measurements and communicate any issues with tolerances.
  • Capture team feedback during fittings and meetings, ensuring clarity and alignment with brand standards.
  • Communicate updates or modifications to product details with overseas offices and vendors.
  • Monitor the production process from prototype to production approval.
  • Organize and maintain garments in the sample room, including filing information and patterns.
  • Execute pattern organization and comparisons in Optitex for review and corrections.
  • Attend key milestone and weekly brand meetings to gain insights about product categories.
  • Execute the DSG Tech Design and Fit Process to ensure spec integrity across products.
  • Update and maintain Sample Tracking Reports accurately.
  • Track sample arrivals and assist in prioritizing workload with Technical Designer.
  • Perform administrative duties related to technical design, including managing sample fittings and deadlines.
  • Conduct competitive research by purchasing and measuring competitor samples.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Apparel, Construction, or Textiles.
  • 1-3 years of industry experience, preferably in Athletic Apparel, Sportswear, or Outdoor Apparel.
  • Previous experience with Adobe Illustrator is required.
  • Working knowledge of Optitex is necessary.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to create and maintain reports is essential.
  • Experience with PDS patternmaking system is preferred.
