About the position

The Assistant Technician position at the Maine Department of Transportation involves performing complex engineering duties in a construction materials testing laboratory. The role focuses on testing soils and aggregates, ensuring compliance with established procedures, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The technician will work under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and may oversee semi-skilled personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality testing of soils and aggregate in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and MaineDOT procedures.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory testing equipment.
  • Handle and manipulate heavy material samples safely and effectively.
  • Work safely with power tools and testing equipment, adhering to all safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in engineering or a related technical field, or an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field with one year of experience.
  • Prior testing experience and certification with NETTCP as a Soils & Aggregate Laboratory Technician is desired.
