About the position

Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for an Assistant Tennis Coach. Reporting to the Head Tennis Coach, the Assistant Tennis Coach supports the mission of the College by assisting with leadership and managing of the College's tennis program, developing and executing effective coaching strategies, recruiting talented athletes, overseeing practices and matches, fostering a positive athlete culture, and ensuring the overall success and growth of the program. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. This coaching position will be a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual seeking a full-time position in college athletics who would also be a great teacher and make a positive difference.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with leadership and management of the College's tennis program
  • Develop and execute effective coaching strategies
  • Recruit talented athletes
  • Oversee practices and matches
  • Foster a positive athlete culture
  • Ensure the overall success and growth of the program
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act
  • Organize and manage all facets of the program including recruiting, scouting, individual instruction, budget planning, and monitoring academic progress of student-athletes
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic and college administration
  • Market the department to various constituencies of the College and surrounding community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of prior coaching experience is required
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Knowledge of effective coaching techniques and best practices
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and build relationships with college administrators, parents, students, and alumni
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes and coaches
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Frequent travel is required
  • Demonstrated understanding of Division III philosophy of athletics and adherence to NCAA regulations
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
