About the position

The Assistant Territorial Social Ministries Director at The Salvation Army Eastern Territory plays a crucial role in enhancing social ministry strategies across various programs. This position involves collaboration with Territorial and Divisional staff to develop, recommend, and implement policies and initiatives aimed at addressing social issues such as poverty, homelessness, and human trafficking. The director will supervise staff, manage departmental goals, and participate in national committees, ensuring effective program delivery and compliance with social service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Aids Divisions in expanding their understanding of and participation in programs related to social ministries.
  • Serves as a member of the Territorial program evaluation/certification team.
  • Conducts surveys and studies, proposes policies, plans, and standards; identifies and recommends goals.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Salvation Army social services policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates department goals and objectives for the year and shares them with the Territorial Social Ministries Director.
  • Participates in department budgetary discussions and serves on relevant boards and committees.
  • Attends and participates in councils, conferences, and training related to social services.
  • Supervises non-exempt employee staff and provides programmatic oversight for exempt employee staff.
  • Supports the Pathway of Hope initiative and collaborates with the Territorial Coordinator.
  • Supervises and supports the Anti-Human Trafficking Program and collaborates with the Territorial Coordinator.
  • Participates in the National Social Services Standards Evaluation Team and adheres to standards.
  • Evaluates proposals for territorial special project funding and provides feedback on proposals not accepted for funding.
  • Provides on-site training and support for local units and divisional personnel on program management and proposal development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • 7-10 years of related experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of non-profit management and supervisory skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Excel
  • Strong presentation skills
