About the position

The Assistant Territorial Social Ministries Director at The Salvation Army plays a crucial role in enhancing social ministry strategies across various programs. This position involves collaboration with Territorial and Divisional staff to develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures, oversee program initiatives, and support funding opportunities. The director supervises both exempt and non-exempt staff, participates in evaluation teams, and serves as a liaison to other departments, ensuring effective social service delivery in line with the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Aids Divisions in expanding their understanding of and participation in programs related to social ministries.
  • Serves as a member of the Territorial program evaluation/certification team.
  • Conducts surveys and studies, proposes policies, plans, and standards; identifies and recommends goals.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Salvation Army Social Services/Ministries related policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates department goals and objectives for the ensuing year and shares them with the Territorial Social Ministries Director.
  • Participates in department budgetary discussions.
  • Serves on appropriate boards, councils, commissions, or committees as recommended.
  • Attends and participates in councils, conferences, seminars, and training related to social services.
  • Acts as an alternate on boards and committees in the absence of the TSMD.
  • Participates in and/or presents at the College of Officer Training lectures and seminars as requested.
  • Supervises employee attendance records, approves timesheets, and monitors absences.
  • Oversees seasonal employees, volunteers, and interns assigned to the department.
  • Participates in the review of resumes and interviews for potential social services candidates.
  • Undertakes special assignments as requested by the Territorial Social Ministries Director.
  • Responsible for supervision of non-exempt employee staff and programmatic oversight of exempt employee staff.
  • Encourages and recommends employee professional development tracks to the TSMD.
  • Supervises the department Administrative Assistant in the absence of the TSMD.
  • Supervises and supports the Pathway of Hope initiative and Anti-Human Trafficking program.
  • Evaluates proposals for territorial special project funding and provides feedback on proposals not accepted for funding.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • 7-10 years of related experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of non-profit management and supervisory skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel
  • Strong presentation skills
