About the position

The Assistant Track and Field Coach for Sprints/Hurdles at Swarthmore College is responsible for designing and implementing the sprints and hurdles program for both men’s and women’s teams. This part-time role involves coaching, developing training schedules, recruiting student-athletes, and ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations. The ideal candidate will work closely with the head coach and other staff to foster a positive and competitive environment for athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and instruction to student-athletes participating in the sprints and hurdles events.
  • Develop a weekly schedule for training/practice and communicate this to the athletes consistently.
  • Attend practices, which typically occur on weekdays in late afternoons/evenings, and meets on Fridays and/or weekends.
  • Oversee strength development and plyometric routines, collaborating with other coaches to ensure proper instruction and completion.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including completing meet entries online by specified deadlines.
  • Actively recruit new student-athletes who meet the academic requirements and are compatible with a Division III program.
  • Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct representative of the coaching profession.
  • Maintain compliance with rules and regulations of the department, institution, conference, and NCAA.
  • Mentor and develop a positive culture for student-athletes.
  • Ensure set-up and clean-up of equipment for sprint/hurdle training as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Coaching experience with a proven ability to teach a range of abilities in track and field.
  • Passion for the sport and commitment to player development.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in recruiting student-athletes for collegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
