About the position

The Assistant Track Coach at Grinnell College is a part-time role responsible for supporting the head coach in various aspects of track and field practices, competition planning, and athlete motivation. The position emphasizes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion, aligning with the college's values. The ideal candidate will have expertise in specific track events and will engage in limited recruiting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate student-athletes to achieve both athletic and academic success.
  • Assist the head coach with planning and conducting training sessions.
  • Work with an event group, preferably sprints and hurdles, with consideration for pole vault and throwing events.
  • Set up practices as required.
  • Engage in limited recruiting responsibilities, including phone calls and meetings with prospective student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach NCAA Division III track & field student-athletes in sprints, hurdles, pole vault, or throwing events.
  • Ability to utilize interpersonal skills to collaborate and motivate across campus constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage workload efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills using various modes of communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment.
  • Understanding of NCAA Division III and conference rules and regulations.
