The Assistant Traffic Engineer performs technical civil engineering work for public infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conducting traffic investigations and writing reports, performing and managing traffic operations studies, providing recommendations, and creating work orders for implementing solutions in conformance with the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MnMUTCD). Employees regularly communicate and collaborate with consultants, designers, contractors, sub-contractors, property owners, utility companies, other departments, divisions and others involved in or affected by projects and are required to make independent decisions in resolving most problems, but informing the supervisor of unusual or controversial problems. This position is directly involved with various departmental and divisional efforts and City endeavors in providing a safe and efficient transportation system.
