About the position

The Assistant Unified Basketball Coach at Washougal High School is responsible for demonstrating effective coaching skills during practices and contests, formulating program goals, and ensuring adherence to district policies and WIAA regulations. The role emphasizes the development of student-athletes through sound techniques, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct, while also managing equipment and facilities, and providing necessary reports and information to the Athletic Director.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively demonstrate coaching skills at practices and contests.
  • Formulate program goals and objectives for the coming sport season.
  • Keep abreast of new knowledge, innovative ideas, techniques by attending clinics and workshops.
  • Model age-appropriate, sportsmanship-like behavior towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Teach student-athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques.
  • Follow district policies, site procedures, WIAA rules, and the WIAA Coaches Code of Ethics.
  • Assist the Athletic Director as needed in carrying out special duties.
  • Implement proper procedures for out-of-season practices according to WIAA and Washougal Athletic Policy.
  • Provide accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop athletes' potential.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury procedures.
  • Conduct oneself and the team in an ethical manner during practice and contests.
  • Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold athletes responsible for unreturned items.
  • Clean, store, and inventory all equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience coaching or participating in a college or high school basketball program.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be fingerprinted for a Washington State Patrol and FBI inquiry.
  • Must possess a valid first aid and CPR card, with an expiration date of at least one year from date of hire.
  • Must possess a certificate of attendance for an in-service on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B.
