About the position

The Assistant United States Attorney (Civil) position in Atlanta, GA, involves representing the United States in civil litigation, including defensive litigation and affirmative civil enforcement. The role requires handling a variety of cases, such as employment discrimination, medical malpractice, and fraud cases under the False Claims Act. The selected candidate will work autonomously, developing litigation strategies and engaging in court proceedings, while also receiving support from supervisors and experienced attorneys. Responsibilities

  • Defend civil cases brought against the United States, its agencies, and employees.
  • Handle affirmative civil enforcement cases, particularly those involving fraud under the False Claims Act.
  • Represent the United States in various civil litigation matters, including employment discrimination and medical malpractice claims.
  • Develop litigation strategies and manage cases with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Engage in depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, trials, and appeals.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Possess a J.D. degree and be an active member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Have at least 3 years of post-J.D. legal or relevant experience.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant civil litigation experience is preferred.
  • Strong academic background and superior legal writing and research skills.
  • Ability to manage large, complex cases and investigations.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability, judgment, and advocacy skills.
