About the position

The Assistant Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Georgetown University Law Center plays a pivotal role in managing the administrative offices and aligning their activities with the Dean's priorities and academic operations. This position serves as a critical thought partner to the Dean on administrative and financial matters, engaging with university officials and stakeholders to support the Law Center's strategic growth and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative offices within Georgetown Law and align activities with the Dean's priorities.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Dean on administrative and financial matters.
  • Gather, analyze, and disseminate necessary information to Georgetown Law and University constituencies.
  • Engage University officials on behalf of the Dean and the administrative offices supervised.
  • Lead the administrative and operational components of the Law Center.
  • Oversee the strategic development of the Law Center's administrative and operational structure.
  • Develop a process for center and institute integration to support collaboration and growth.
  • Run regular operational meetings to identify major events and resource needs.
  • Collaborate with Law Center leadership to develop new building space.
  • Advocate for the Law Center's needs and develop relationships with university leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or a related field; MBA or similar advanced degree preferred.
  • 10-20 years of progressive work experience in higher education or a private sector equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade staff.
  • Advanced project management skills, including managing capital projects.
  • Experience managing staff in a university setting and ability to coach and train staff.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Georgetown University Law Center.
  • Knowledge of strategic budget management and financial planning techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex and diverse organizations.
  • Creative thinking about access, equity, and opportunity for students.
  • Proven success in establishing productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.
