About the position

WSP is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Civil Engineer to join our dynamic Transportation team in the Irvine, CA office location. This role involves providing subject matter technical support and leadership for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in both the public and private sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of various facilities, including roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment facilities. In this position, you will provide situational guidance to project managers and managers, addressing current and future challenges while ensuring that documentation and recommendations accurately account for and address risk, innovation, and future-ready opportunities. You will lead efforts to ensure that responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your impact will include oversight of collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. You will apply high-level civil engineering techniques to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases, including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation. Additionally, you will perform professional civil engineering work, conducting comprehensive investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, facilities, and pollution sources to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. You will develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and manage the design and construction of infrastructure projects from inception to completion. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of advanced technologies and ensuring that all project contributors are aware of their responsibilities and deadlines. You will also assist with engineering reviews of permit applications and design plans, meet with various public or private entities to discuss engineering challenges, and develop a client base for high-level civil engineering services. Mentoring staff and remaining current in the latest civil engineering techniques will also be key components of your role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and civil design.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Highly proficient with civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors.
