About the position

The Student Life office at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Student Wellness. Reporting directly to the Vice President/Dean of Student Life, the AVP of Student Wellness, a new position, will provide leadership and vision for the programs in Student Life that promote an equitable model of wellness to the student body. The AVP provides oversight of the Student Health and Wellness Center, the Student Counseling Center, Peer Health Education Programs, and the CARE/Basic Needs Program. The AVP directs the development of the organizational culture of Wellness for the College in support of students. Hours: Monday-Friday. After hours and weekends may be required. Exempt Status: Exempt. Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time. Salary Range: $145,000-$155,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to the Assistant Director of the Student Counseling Center.
  • Supervise pre-doctoral level trainees and coordinate with graduate institutions for staffing selection.
  • Oversee the Student Health and Wellness Center and collaborate with the Director on staff recruitment and evaluation.
  • Manage CARE reports and collaborate with various campus departments to support students in need.
  • Oversee peer health education programs and collaborate with Advancement for additional revenue.
  • Administer budgets for the Student Counseling Center, Student Health and Wellness Center, and CARE programs.
  • Initiate and respond to referrals and special needs requests from faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop and implement preventative mental and physical health programs.
  • Provide primary leadership for campus wellness program design and policy development.
  • Manage CARE referrals and provide crisis response and incident debriefing.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or Education from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of APA approved internship/post-doctoral fellowship leading to licensure in California.
  • Experience in a college counseling setting and supervision of graduate level trainees.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and risk assessment.
  • Experience in budgeting, fundraising, and fiscal management.
