About the position

The Assistant Wrestling Coach at Reynolds Middle School is responsible for supporting the head coach in organizing and conducting the wrestling program. This role involves motivating student athletes, instructing them in game strategies and techniques, and ensuring a positive and safe environment during practices and competitions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of wrestling.
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
  • Assess participants' skills, monitor students during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of athletic performance.
  • Assist with determining game strategy.
  • Supervise athletes during practices and competitions alongside the head coach.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintain the equipment room in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
  • Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
  • Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participate in special activities such as parent's night, banquets, award nights, and assemblies.
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data, and other related records.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Requirements

  • Some experience as an assistant wrestling coach at the high school or college level preferred.
  • Effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of wrestling.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
