About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Non Varsity Programs is a full-time, twelve-month position at Merrimack College, responsible for overseeing all club sports teams, the Campus Fitness Center, Recreation Center, intramurals, and fitness programs. This role involves a comprehensive approach to managing and promoting club sports, ensuring effective recruitment of athletes, and collaborating with various departments to enhance the visibility and operation of these programs. The Associate Athletic Director will work closely with Undergraduate Admissions to facilitate communication with prospective club sport athletes, participating in events such as open houses and accepted student days. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with College Marketing and Communications to develop a cohesive marketing strategy for club sports, including managing logos, websites, and social media presence. In terms of program development, the Associate Athletic Director will be responsible for evaluating and coordinating all recreation programs, ensuring they meet the needs of the student body. This includes overseeing the hiring and onboarding of club sport coaches, managing budgets for the department, and ensuring that all teams are properly outfitted with equipment and apparel. The role also involves scheduling practices and games for club sports teams, managing transportation logistics, and providing a robust calendar of events for all recreation areas, including fitness classes and intramural competitions. The Associate Athletic Director will also oversee the management of the Merrimack College Bowling Alley and facilitate the usage of the Golf Simulator in the Student Union. Regular communication with prospective students through the Slate system is essential, as is the preparation of reports regarding club sports activities, retention, and recruitment. The position requires attendance at club sports home games and away competitions, representing Merrimack College with professionalism and integrity. The Associate Athletic Director will also fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics, contributing to the overall mission of the college and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the recruitment of all club sport athletes into Merrimack College.
  • Work closely with Undergraduate Admissions to ensure proper notification and communication with prospective club sport athletes.
  • Assist with open houses, accepted student days, virtual presentations, and other admission events.
  • Collaborate with College Marketing and Communications on a cohesive marketing plan for club sports teams and operations.
  • Develop all recreation programs, coordinating and evaluating each sport and program offerings annually.
  • Work with Human Resources on hiring and onboarding club sport coaches, ensuring proper compensation and training.
  • Ensure a close connection with a vendor for equipment and apparel for club sports teams.
  • Manage the operations of the Merrimack College Bowling Alley and facilitate the usage of the Golf Simulator.
  • Provide a calendar of events for recreation areas, including club sports, fitness classes, and intramurals.
  • Schedule practices and game schedules for all club sport teams.
  • Coordinate transportation logistics for teams to and from events.
  • Manage budgets for the department, facility, and club sports teams, overseeing fundraising and dues collections.
  • Utilize Slate to communicate with prospective students and run queries for coaches.
  • Oversee all Club Sports & Recreation staff and hold weekly staff meetings.
  • Coordinate call nights for club sports teams to speak with prospective students.
  • Prepare reports regarding club sports activities, retention, and recruitment.
  • Attend meetings related to retention and recruitment, as well as club sports home games and competitions.
  • Represent Merrimack College with professionalism and integrity.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • 8-10 years of experience in Recreation, RCRSP preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines.
