About the position

The Associate CEHE Engineer Electric position at CenterPoint Energy involves providing engineering technical support for the design, analysis, construction, and operations of the company's overhead and underground transmission, substation, and distribution systems. The role requires collaboration with various teams to ensure effective project execution and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering and construction packages, including maps, material bills, drawings, and work orders.
  • Monitor project schedules and material deliveries.
  • Plan and develop the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for the electric power system.
  • Make informed decisions, follow procedures, and comply with policies based on knowledge of the work and services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards such as the National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code.
  • Utilize appropriate software and platforms for Engineering Applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, for complex engineering design calculations.
  • Proficiency in SAP, G.I.S., and Microstation for technical engineering applications.
  • Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and produce electrical models, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and system operations for daily decision-making.
  • Effective communication skills with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Proficiency in personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentations, and email.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SAP is a plus.
