About the position

Liberty Mutual is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Commercial Insurance Claims Representative to join our fast-growing claims team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a hybrid environment, where you will be required to report in-person twice a month if you live within 50 miles of our dedicated commercial offices located in Westborough, MA; Suwanee, GA; Plano, TX; or Hoffman Estates, IL. As a Claims Representative, you will be responsible for reviewing and processing simple and straightforward commercial claims within assigned authority limits, ensuring compliance with policy and legal requirements. Your role will involve extensive interaction with insured parties, claimants, agents, and internal customers, making effective communication and relationship-building skills essential for success. In this position, you will investigate claims using both internal and external resources, which includes speaking with the insured or other involved parties, analyzing reports, and researching past claim activity. You will determine policy coverage through careful analysis of investigation data and policy terms, notifying agents and insured parties of coverage decisions or any issues that arise. Additionally, you will establish claim reserve requirements and adjust them as necessary throughout the claims process. Your responsibilities will also include negotiating settlement amounts for damages claimed within your assigned authority limits and maintaining accurate and current claim files and documentation throughout the lifecycle of each claim. Responsibilities

  • Investigates claims using internal and external resources, including speaking with the insured or other involved parties.
  • Analyzes reports and researches past claim activity to gather necessary information.
  • Determines policy coverage through analysis of investigation data and policy terms.
  • Notifies agents and insured of coverage decisions or any issues that arise.
  • Establishes claim reserve requirements and adjusts them as necessary during the claims processing.
  • Determines and negotiates settlement amounts for damages claimed within assigned authority limits.
  • Writes simple to moderately complex property damage estimates or reviews auto damage estimates.
  • Takes statements when necessary and collaborates with the Field Appraisal, Subrogation, and Special Investigative Unit (SIU) as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and current claim files, damage documentation, and diaries throughout the lifecycle of claims to ensure proper tracking and handling.
  • Alerts Unit Leader to the possibility of fraud or subrogation potential for claims being processed.

Requirements

  • Effective interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation abilities required.
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in a professional environment; success in a customer service/retail environment preferred.
  • Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; as normally acquired through a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of legal liability, insurance coverage, and medical terminology helpful, but not mandatory.
  • Licensing may be required in some states.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service is preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage and legal liability is a plus.
