About the position

The Associate Specialist Automation Technician plays a crucial role in supporting process control systems used in manufacturing operations at Merck Sharp & Dohme. This entry-level position focuses on real-time support for manufacturing processes, ensuring production goals are met safely and efficiently while adhering to GMP standards. The role involves troubleshooting, system administration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, all while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supports routine production as an administrator for manufacturing systems, collaborating with maintenance, technical operations, and quality personnel.
  • Performs routine system monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Conducts routine system administration per standard operating procedures.
  • Identifies trends in system problems and proposes solutions.
  • Learns and supports all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participates in investigations of automation incidents and develops corrective actions.
  • Becomes a subject matter expert (SME) in specific process steps and automation technology platforms over time.
  • Supports knowledge management and team learning to improve manufacturing process support.
  • Coordinates projects for timely implementation of automation projects, including change controls and associated protocols.
  • Participates in audits and training programs in the area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLC, DeltaV DCS, PAS-X MES, Batch Operations (S88/S95)
  • Ability to read P&ID's, electrical drawings, blueprints, etc.
  • GMP automation system administration experience in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology setting.
