About the position

The Associate Systems Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for enhancing the developer experience through automation and software solutions. This role involves applying engineering best practices, leveraging coding standards, and addressing technical challenges to support users effectively. The position requires collaboration within a DevOps and Agile framework to ensure efficient software development and deployment.

Responsibilities

• Automate and improve the developer experience for engineers
• Apply engineering standard methodologies to analyze and develop software solutions
• Leverage established coding standards and best practices to develop solutions
• Identify technical problems and develop software solutions or automation capabilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
• At least 2 years of working experience
• Experience with AWS Cloud Services and containerized applications
• Experience with monitoring and performance management/tuning of systems
• Experience with networking and Linux-based platforms
• Proficiency in modern programming and scripting languages (Python, Go, JavaScript)
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience working with DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, and Agile methodologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Problem solver who enjoys learning on the job

Nice-to-haves

• AWS or Docker or Kubernetes Certification Preferred
• AWS Certified Preferred
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation using Gitlab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline, or Circle CI
