About the position

The Associate Academic Research Scientist at Emory University's School of Medicine is responsible for conducting complex research duties that advance basic and translational research programs. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, management skills, and leadership capabilities to oversee research projects and ensure quality assurance. The position also involves writing necessary approval documents and may include grant applications and independent research responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and recommends potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Demonstrates increased responsibility through management of teams and leadership of scientific projects.
  • Aids in writing IACUC, IRB, Biosafety and other approval documents.
  • Oversees quality assurance of research conducted by other team members.
  • Assists in grant and funding applications, and may have their own research projects with approval.
  • May serve as principal investigators on funded proposals.

Requirements

  • PhD and one year of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
  • Master's degree and three years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mouse animal models, including animal husbandry, genotyping, drug preparation, and injections/treatments.
  • Ability to design novel experiments and write manuscripts.
  • Experience in developing biochemical and cell-based assays for high throughput screening.
  • Hands-on bench scientist with communication skills to interact with biomedical investigators and medicinal chemists.
