About the position

Our client is one of the largest machine tool distribution networks in North America, providing CNC machine tools, tooling, accessories, software, automation, and more to manufacturers of precision machined parts. The regional customer base spans the New England states, northern New Jersey, and eastern New York, including the New York metropolitan area and Long Island. The Associate Account Manager (Associate) will be responsible for prospecting, forecasting, demoing, and closing business in their assigned territory, working closely with the Account Manager assigned to that territory. This role is designed to provide the Associate with the necessary training and mentorship for the first 12-24 months, allowing them to learn the business and build relationships with customers, builders, and internal stakeholders. The goal is for the Associate to transition into a Capital Sales Territory of their own within this timeframe. The Associate will manage their time and schedule daily to ensure effective coverage of their territory. They will be responsible for understanding and developing the market within their assigned territory and/or accounts. Meeting or exceeding activity standards for prospecting calls, appointments, presentations, proposals, and closed orders is essential. The Associate will assist in developing annual business plans and sales strategies for their territory, ensuring the attainment of company sales goals and profitability, and will help implement marketing plans as needed. They will initiate and coordinate action plans to penetrate new markets and provide timely feedback to management regarding their activities, goals, and performance. Customer satisfaction is a priority, and the Associate will ensure that customer commitments are executed as planned. They will take ownership of customer-related problems and coordinate with appropriate departments for resolution. The role involves interacting with customers and engineers on pre-sale activities, including customer visits, opportunity evaluations, machine assessments, and turnkey proposal development. Building and maintaining partner relationships with machine tool vendors and other third-party vendors is also crucial. The Associate will adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes, ensuring they are communicated and implemented within the team. Participation in meetings, seminars, and training sessions is expected to stay updated on new developments in the field, along with maintaining in-depth technical knowledge of the product lines represented by the company. The Associate will educate prospects on the benefits of the products and integrate sales activities into the CRM system (Salesforce).

Responsibilities

  • Manage time and schedule daily to ensure effective coverage of assigned territory.
  • Understand, cover, and develop the market within assigned territory and/or accounts.
  • Meet or exceed all activity standards for prospecting calls, appointments, presentations, proposals, and closed orders.
  • Assist in developing annual business plans and sales strategies for the territory to ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability.

Requirements

  • Associate's and/or bachelor's degrees are preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous capital sales, B2B sales, or other relevant sales experience with a successful track record is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Proficiency in SalesForce.com is a plus.
  • Proficiency required to transition into Capital Sales Account Manager.
  • Ability to use mathematics to solve problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to think quickly, assess a situation and make sound decisions.
  • Solid written and verbal communication, listening, organization, and priority setting skills required.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts.

  • Proficiency in SalesForce.com is a plus.
