About the position

The Associate Accountant - Corporate Tax position at Northern Trust involves assisting in the preparation of essential calculations and documentation necessary for tax filing obligations. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks within designated timeframes. The successful candidate will perform basic research on tax issues as requested by senior staff and will attend meetings with various internal and external partners to develop working relationships. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial for this role. The position also entails gaining familiarity with the processes used by the Corporate Tax Group and adhering to these processes when completing assigned tasks. The candidate will be expected to learn and utilize tax technology software efficiently, including tools like Excel and Word. An eagerness to learn through on-the-job training and coaching from higher-level staff is essential. Candidates should possess a basic knowledge of tax filing compliance and related concepts, as well as familiarity with tax research software and the hierarchy of tax law. Exposure to performing tax research using various tools is beneficial. The role is designed for individuals with an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as accounting, finance, or economics, and ideally, candidates will have 0 to 3 years of experience in the field. An MST or other advanced degree, along with CPA certification, is considered a plus.

Requirements

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
