About the position

Under general direction of the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I), the Associate Accounting Analyst (AAA) exhibits independence and proficiency in handling complex and difficult assignments for the Federal Financial Planning and Analysis Unit. The AAA performs the more complex analytical work related to the Department's budget, funding, reconciliations, forecasting, cash flow, administrative limits, and financial reporting related to federal grants. This includes working with Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), Consolidated Automated Program Enterprise System (CAPES), Grant Management System (GMS), Integrated Disbursement and Information System (IDIS), researching and gathering accounting data, and providing reports on a monthly and annual basis to be used for monitoring and reconciliation. The AAA determines and manages necessary cash flow to support financial operations and identifies significant trends. Duties may include access to information systems containing protected enrollee information, including federal tax information, protected health information, and personally identifying information. Responsibilities

  • Handle complex assignments related to the Department's budget and funding.
  • Perform reconciliations, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Prepare financial reports related to federal grants on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Research and gather accounting data for financial analysis.
  • Manage cash flow to support financial operations and identify trends.
  • Access and manage information systems containing protected enrollee information.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with accounting software and financial reporting.
  • Strong writing skills for report preparation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis principles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal).
  • Knowledge of state accounting processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements.
