About the position

The Associate Accounting Analyst (AAA) position within the Federal Financial Planning and Analysis Unit at the Department of Housing & Community Development (HCD) is a critical role that requires a high level of independence and proficiency in managing complex assignments. Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I), the AAA will engage in intricate analytical work that pertains to the Department's budget, funding, reconciliations, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting related to federal grants. This role is essential for ensuring that the financial operations of the department are conducted smoothly and efficiently, particularly in relation to federal funding and compliance requirements. The AAA will utilize various financial systems, including the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), Consolidated Automated Program Enterprise System (CAPES), Grant Management System (GMS), and Integrated Disbursement and Information System (IDIS). Responsibilities will include researching and gathering accounting data, generating monthly and annual reports for monitoring and reconciliation purposes, and determining necessary cash flow to support financial operations. The position also involves identifying significant trends in financial data, which is crucial for strategic planning and decision-making within the department. Moreover, the AAA will have access to sensitive information systems that contain protected enrollee information, including federal tax information and personally identifying information. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis.
