About the position

The Associate Actuary position at Security Benefit involves providing actuarial analysis and technical support within the Actuarial Modeling Department. This role is crucial for the management and financial success of annuity and retirement products, focusing on model enhancements, testing, and special projects. The Associate Actuary will collaborate with various departments to fulfill strategic objectives and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide actuarial analysis and technical skills to support the Actuarial Department's strategic objectives.
• Implement model enhancements and perform model testing for annuity and retirement products.
• Complete annual actuarial liability experience studies and communicate results to senior staff.
• Cleanse and analyze data meticulously for accurate reporting.
• Maintain and enhance SQL server stored procedure code.
• Assist junior staff members and support the Assumptions Team in various capacities.
• Employ automation tasks to improve efficiency in the functional area.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
• ASA designation with 8+ years of experience or near FSA with 6+ years of experience preferred.
• Experience with Prophet actuarial modeling software is required.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and actuarial software.
• Proficient in programming/scripting languages such as VBA, C++, C#, SQL, Python, or Java.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in financial reporting or model development for annuities (VA, FA, EIA).
