About the position

The Associate Actuary position at Continental General Insurance Company involves performing complex actuarial tasks under limited supervision. The role requires a strong foundation in actuarial science, mathematics, and statistics, with a focus on valuation and modeling. The Associate Actuary will contribute to departmental projects, automate processes, and ensure compliance with model risk management standards while progressing towards Fellowship in the Actuarial field.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in large-scale department projects
  • Identifies opportunities to automate processes and expand modeling capabilities
  • Implements assumption and methodology changes to actuarial models
  • Compiles, consolidates, and analyzes actuarial information for reports
  • Develops and maintains calculation of policy values, profit studies, and reserve studies
  • Provides actuarial analyses and communications to product areas
  • Maintains awareness of emerging issues affecting product lines
  • Acts as a project lead on actuarial studies and strategies
  • Maintains documentation of actuarial analysis
  • Provides technical advice to lower level positions and other functional areas
  • Leads the work of others, including mentoring and reviewing assignments
  • Produces accurate and timely valuations every month
  • Completes necessary audit and control activities related to model runs
  • Prepares actuarial portion of financial reports in accordance with SAP and Tax Principles
  • Analyzes and reviews reserves and non-forfeiture values of products
  • Assists in the annual update of assumptions for actuarial models
  • Develops knowledge of Statutory and tax reporting requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant Actuarial experience; LTC experience preferred
  • Background in modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communications
  • Near-Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), with minimum of 5 exams passed and is working towards credential
