About the position

Energy Transfer is seeking an Associate Analyst for Financial Planning & Analysis to join our team in Dallas, TX. This role is crucial for tracking the financial performance of capital and operational expenses, as well as conducting forecasting and variance analysis specifically for Sunoco LP. The Associate Analyst will assist in both short and long-term capital and expense planning activities, ensuring that financial operations align with the company's strategic goals. In this position, the Associate Analyst will be responsible for preparing the monthly financial review reporting deck for Executive Management. This includes supporting the company-wide annual budget planning and the subsequent monthly forecasting process for all expenses and capital. The role requires coordination with field analysts, operations management, and project managers to accurately budget and forecast projects and operational expenses. The Associate Analyst will conduct operating expense and capital variance analysis, comparing budget/forecast against actual results, quarter over quarter, and current year against prior year. Regular presentations of results, forecasts, and budgets to commercial, operations, and executive leadership will be a key part of this role. The Associate Analyst will also provide ad hoc expense analysis to operations and commercial departments, working closely with Accounting, HR, Insurance, Tax, and other departments to ensure the accuracy of financial transactions. Additionally, the role involves supporting TM1 production and development environments, maintaining existing dimensions, and managing user access/security. The Associate Analyst will prepare quarterly reports for Investor Relations, the Board of Directors, and M&A teams, contributing to the overall goals of the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial review reporting deck for Executive Management.
  • Support the company-wide annual budget planning and subsequent monthly forecasting process for all expenses and capital.
  • Coordinate with field analysts, operations management, and project managers to accurately budget and forecast projects and operational expenses.
  • Conduct operating expense and capital variance analysis including budget/forecast vs. actual, quarter vs. quarter, current year vs. prior year.
  • Regularly present results, forecasts, and budgets to commercial, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Provide ad hoc expense analysis to operations and commercial departments.
  • Work closely with Accounting, HR, Insurance, Tax, and other departments to ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Participate in team objectives of maximizing efficiencies with reporting, automation, and optimization.
  • Provide support of our TM1 production and development environments supporting multiple users, maintaining existing dimensions and managing user access/security.
  • Prepare quarterly reports for Investor Relations, Board of Directors, and M&A teams.
  • Contribute to overall Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team goals as needed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of related work experience for Associate Analyst; 2-5 years for Analyst; 5+ years for Sr Analyst.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient with MS Excel.
  • High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly organized with the ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Historical experience in the energy sector is preferred (specifically Pipelines and Terminals).
  • IBM Cognos TM1 experience preferred, but not required to apply; willingness to learn is required.
  • SAP experience preferred, but not required.
