About the position

The Associate Artificial Intelligence Engineer in the Human Language Technology (HLT) Department at MITRE Corporation is responsible for researching, developing, evaluating, and integrating advanced language processing solutions for various U.S. Government agencies. This role involves leveraging large language models and machine learning techniques to address complex mission needs, while also providing technical leadership and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, evaluate, and integrate HLT capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams in developing AI and HLT solutions.
• Analyze language processing needs and recommend innovative solutions.
• Prototype HLT systems or components based on workflow and operational mission needs.
• Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, providing actionable recommendations.
• Convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers.
• Lead projects or small teams to solve complex HLT problems for sponsors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, linguistics, or related disciplines.
• Knowledge of and experience in prototyping/developing human language technology components/systems.
• Ability to apply state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to human language technology processing challenges.
• Experience with programming languages such as Java or Python.
• Demonstrated recent experience with large language models.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior work experience, including summer internships, in AI/HLT relevant areas.
• Hands-on experience in the development/prototyping of HLT systems or components.
• Active DOD security clearance.
