About the position

The Associate Athletic Director - Academic Success at Eastern Washington University is responsible for leading the Academic Services unit within the Department of Athletics. This role involves creating, executing, and monitoring academic support programs for approximately 350 student-athletes across 14 sports, ensuring compliance with NCAA and university regulations. The position requires strong leadership, collaboration with various stakeholders, and a commitment to promoting academic success and integrity within the athletics program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of student services, programs, and activities supporting student-athlete academic success, retention, and graduation.
  • Manage and supervise academic counseling staff in the Athletics Department, including organizing staff roles and responsibilities, hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Build relationships with faculty, deans, and college program counselors to advance academic support for student-athletes; serve as a liaison between faculty and coaching staff.
  • Assist coaches in establishing and conducting sport-specific study programs and supervised study sessions for athletes; track academic progress for NCAA eligibility.
  • Assess and implement developmental, mentoring, and tutoring programs for at-risk student-athletes.
  • Implement a monitoring and reporting program for assessing student-athlete course progress and performance.
  • Assist with compliance regarding transfer and continuing eligibility status for NCAA and Big Sky Conference academic standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time professional experience working in student-athlete academic services or commensurate experience within intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communications and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and NCAA rules and regulations governing student-athletes' academic performance.
  • Demonstrated interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Sport Administration, or a related field.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Work experience in a Division I athletic department.
