About the position

The Associate Athletic Director (Athletic Compliance) at Prairie View A&M University serves as the overall administrator responsible for the development and monitoring of all systems designed to ensure compliance with NCAA, Southwestern Athletic Conference, and University rules. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the athletic program by ensuring that all operations adhere to the established regulations governing amateurism, eligibility, financial aid, and other compliance-related areas for 18 intercollegiate sports. The selected candidate will be expected to provide leadership and oversight for a comprehensive compliance program, which includes coordinating education programs on athletics compliance rules, conducting rules meetings, and preparing educational materials for staff and student-athletes. In addition to overseeing compliance education, the Associate Athletic Director will act as a liaison between the NCAA, Eligibility Center, Conference, and other institutions regarding compliance matters. This role involves leading the compliance staff, performing daily operations of the Compliance Office, and ensuring strict adherence to NCAA and conference regulations. The Associate Athletic Director will also be responsible for developing strategic plans to evaluate potential compliance conflicts, investigating and self-reporting rule violations, and completing mandated forms and reports required by various agencies. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring student-athlete employment and NIL deals, overseeing the clearance process for student-athletes, and managing the allocation of athletics financial aid. The Associate Athletic Director will also be involved in approving and monitoring visits for prospective student-athletes and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. This role is essential for maintaining the university's commitment to compliance and integrity in its athletic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight for a Comprehensive Compliance program.
  • Coordinates athletics compliance rules education programs, including conducting rules meetings and initiating orientation programs.
  • Acts as a liaison between the NCAA, Eligibility Center, Conference, and other institutions regarding compliance.
  • Leads, trains, and evaluates compliance staff members.
  • Performs day-to-day operations of the Compliance Office, implementing rules and providing vision for the NCAA Compliance Unit.
  • Ensures strict adherence to NCAA, Southwestern Athletic Conference, and University rules and regulations for amateurism, eligibility, financial aid, and more.
  • Develops strategic plans and evaluates potential compliance conflicts and issues.
  • Leads efforts to investigate and self-report rule violations to appropriate offices.
  • Completes mandated forms, reports, assessments, and audits as required by various agencies.
  • Assists with the certification of initial and continuing eligibility and allocation of athletics financial aid.
  • Monitors NCAA Eligibility Center documentation for prospective student-athletes.
  • Collects financial aid requests and determines allocations in accordance with NCAA scholarship limitations.
  • Maintains NCAA squad lists and submits them to the Conference Office as required.
  • Submits waivers on behalf of student-athletes.
  • Monitors student-athlete employment and NIL Deals.
  • Oversees the clearance process for all student-athletes, including transfers and the complimentary ticket process.
  • Approves and monitors all prospective student-athlete visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of experience in athletic administration.
  • Knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules and regulations.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five or more years of experience in athletics administration.
  • Experience in drafting NCAA waivers and violations.
  • Experience conducting rules education presentations.
  • Working knowledge of Cai, LSDBi, Eligibility Center, JumpForward and/or FrontRush software.
