About the position

The Associate Athletic Director, Budget/Finance at Columbia University is responsible for providing leadership in financial management and budget oversight for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. This role involves strategic planning, financial reporting, and collaboration with various departments to ensure the financial viability and growth of athletic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, oversight, and reconciliation of all department budgets, including monthly financial reporting for Coaches and Administration.
  • Support all financial reporting, data collection, data analysis, and forecasting for 31 athletic programs and administrative units.
  • Prepare and assist in the analysis and interpretation of financial data for budgets, capital projects, endowments, and special events.
  • Support the Senior Associate Athletics Director / CFO with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
  • Liaison with other financial departments, such as the Office of Budget and Management and Development & Alumni Relations.
  • Assist in being the point of contact for areas of finance and administration, including purchasing, budget office, payroll, and accounts payable.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and consultation to managers, supervisors, and staff covering a broad range of financial policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Finance and Budget and Athletics Business Office Staff.
  • Work with the Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO, and Human Resources Manager, on Human Resources-related tasks.
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Council of Ivy League Presidents, University, and Department rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with accounting and expense management systems.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of institutions of higher education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a collegiate athletics department with demonstrated fiscal and operational management skills.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office/Excel.
  • Experience with financial planning, analytics, and modeling.
  • Advanced degree.
