About the position

The Associate Athletic Director, Budget & Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and budget management of the Athletics Department. This role involves compiling various financial reports, conducting complex research and analyses, and developing financial strategies to support the department's goals. The position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective budget solutions and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage annual budget planning and development, communicating approved budgets to each unit and sport administrator.
  • Monitor trends, forecast, and resolve budget-related issues as needed.
  • Prepare monthly budget reports for 22 sports and 24 support units for distribution to coaches, staff, and senior leadership.
  • Act as a liaison to the university budget office during the budget process and throughout the year.
  • Develop policies that affect operations across the industry and establish operational objectives and plans.
  • Manage analytical projects, evaluate findings, prepare reports, and make recommendations regarding financial implications of transactions.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Associate AD, CFO to direct the development and implementation of financial strategies and recommendations.
  • Generate long-term financial projections regarding operating revenues and expenses.
  • Evaluate progress and results, initiating changes in policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Control resources and policy formation, creating standards for all staff in various units.
  • Implement and lead the fulfillment of athletic department third-party contracts, ensuring proper internal review and approval processes are in place.
  • Develop and manage the Athletics Business Office guidelines (Purchasing and Travel) and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly with coaches and staff, developing working relationships with internal and external parties.
  • Meet with coaches and unit supervisors concerning budget matters and work with client groups to define and analyze processes for effective budget solutions.
  • Provide leadership to unit leads to ensure expectations are met across all units.
  • Hire, manage, and train at least four Business Office staff members, preparing annual performance evaluations.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Senior Associate AD/CFO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of seven years of related work experience, including three years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters of Business Administration.
  • Seven years or more experience working in a college or university athletic department business office or conference office with demonstrated fiscal and operational management skills.
  • Experience in financial planning and strategy.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and adhering to budgets.
