About the position

The Associate Athletics Director for Compliance plays a crucial role in supporting the Vice President and Director of Athletics by overseeing the compliance program within the athletics department. This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, and maintaining institutional control over all athletic programs. The role involves collaboration with various university offices and the development of educational programs to promote compliance and inclusivity.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains day-to-day leadership and oversight of the Office of Athletic Compliance.
  • Serves as liaison between Department and University offices including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar/Academic Services, and Residence Life for compliance purposes.
  • Oversees compliance with NCAA and Conference rules relating to recruiting, eligibility, admissions, financial aid, practice and playing seasons, and awards & benefits.
  • Conducts rules education and training programs within the Department of Athletics and across the University.
  • Researches and maintains familiarity with all NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.
  • Ensures athletic academic processes adhere to NCAA, conference, and institutional rules.
  • Oversees the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program.
  • Manages the department's textbook program.
  • Reports any violations to the President, Director of Athletics, Legal Affairs/General Counsel, and Faculty Athletics Representative.
  • Detects, investigates, and documents possible NCAA violations/infractions.
  • Assists with rule interpretations and meets with the Vice President for Legal Affairs/General Counsel as needed.
  • Serves as the department liaison to the University Athletics Council and works with the Faculty Athletics Representative.
  • Oversees and manages the student-athlete code of conduct and serves as liaison for department to Student Life for violations.
  • Serves as department liaison with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and participates in campus groups dedicated to equity efforts.
  • Leads efforts on the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Review Framework and oversees the annual diversity and inclusion planning and reporting process.
  • Completes administrative tasks for the Department of Athletics, including preparing NCAA, conference, and University forms and reports, maintaining databases, and representing athletics at various functions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with an emphasis on Sports Administration, Student Services, or Higher Education Administration required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a collegiate athletics compliance or support services program.
  • At least two years of administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics required, preferably at a NCAA Division I Level.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends; some traveling required.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA and University rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with individuals of all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated solid planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills; ability to compile data, prepare, write and review reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of NCAA Compliance Assistant, ARMS or other compliance software programs preferred.
