The Associate Athletic Director for Content and Communications at The University of Tulsa is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the Content and Communications offices within the athletic department. This position operates under the guidelines set forth by the NCAA, the American Athletic Conference, and the university itself. The individual in this role will directly supervise a team that includes the Director of Media Relations, Associate Media Relations Director, Director of Broadcasting, Director of Content, and Director of Video Production. The Associate Athletic Director will be tasked with organizing, directing, and administering the athletic communications and content office, which supports 17 intercollegiate sports. In this capacity, the Associate Athletic Director will develop and implement athletic brand standards and tools that facilitate brand decision-making. They will also design, monitor, and improve operational workflows to efficiently produce, distribute, and manage rights to meaningful content. A strategic media plan will be developed and implemented to enhance the image and brand of Tulsa athletics, expanding programming and content creation capabilities across various platforms including print, video, photography, and social media. The role requires increasing distribution and fan engagement across broadcast, mobile, web, and in-venue experiences. Financial management is another critical aspect of this position, as the Associate Athletic Director will manage the financial affairs of media production, ensuring that costs remain within budget while providing reconciliations and forecasting revenue and expenses. They will handle all national TV broadcast communications and set up for televised games, which includes coordinating with production teams and providing necessary materials for coaches and players. As the primary public relations agent for the athletic department, the Associate Athletic Director will serve as a liaison between the department, its coaches and players, and the media, while also maintaining relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. The role also encompasses traditional sports information duties, such as writing and editing sport record and fact books, game notes, news releases, and game recaps. The Associate Athletic Director will coordinate game day media operations, manage media credential requests, and promote student-athletes for various awards. Additionally, they will maintain the official athletics website and handle communications activities for football during travel. The position also involves managing a team of students from the Pathways to Sports Academy program, providing mentorship and guidance in their professional development.
