About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Operations at the University of California, Santa Barbara, plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of athletic facilities, fields, and grounds, as well as managing athletic event operations. This position is responsible for ensuring that all athletic events, including Division I intercollegiate competitions and external events, are executed efficiently and in compliance with NCAA and Big West Conference regulations. The Associate Athletic Director will develop and implement comprehensive event management plans, oversee the scheduling and contracting processes for facilities, and ensure that all necessary staffing and resources are in place for successful event execution. In addition to event management, the role includes significant responsibilities in facility management. This involves developing long-range plans for maintenance and renovation of athletic venues, ensuring that facilities meet NCAA specifications, and collaborating with campus partners for maintenance and repairs. The Associate Athletic Director will also oversee budgets related to event management and facility operations, ensuring adherence to financial plans while maintaining high standards of safety and quality at all events. The position requires strong leadership skills, as the Associate Athletic Director will supervise event operations staff and coordinate with various stakeholders, including campus officials and external vendors. The role demands a commitment to compliance with all relevant regulations and policies, as well as a proactive approach to conflict resolution and safety management. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) department at various meetings and contribute to the overall strategic planning and execution of athletic events and facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of athletics facilities, fields, and grounds.
  • Manage athletic event operations, including planning, coordination, and execution of Division I intercollegiate athletic events.
  • Develop and implement event management plans for all intercollegiate athletic events.
  • Oversee scheduling and contracting processes for all facilities and events.
  • Establish professional working relationships with on/off campus partners to support conflict resolution and ensure safety and security at all events.
  • Coordinate and supervise NCAA Championship events held on campus.
  • Supervise game management duties to ensure quality and safety at all University Athletic events.
  • Responsible for home contest administration, including event staff, parking, and security.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and Conference requirements at all sports events.
  • Serve as primary event manager for selected home events and special events hosted by UCSB Athletics.
  • Oversee budgets related to event management and execute plans to remain on budget.
  • Develop long-range plans for facility maintenance and renovation.
  • Oversee facility maintenance planning and day-to-day operations at athletic venues.
  • Work closely with campus partners to perform maintenance repairs within University policy.
  • Initiate and coordinate special projects at venues and assist with major renovations and capital projects planning.
  • Represent ICA at monthly Major Event Meetings and governance meetings related to facilities and events.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of related experience in athletic event management and facility operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in overseeing athletic events, including planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Proven experience in managing day-to-day operations of athletic facilities, fields, and grounds.
  • Commitment to ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience overseeing Division I intercollegiate athletic events is highly desirable.
  • 7-9 years of related experience preferred.
