About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, General Counsel at Idaho State University is responsible for overseeing the NCAA compliance program within the Athletic Department. This role involves developing and executing policies to ensure adherence to NCAA, BSC, and university regulations, while providing guidance and support to various stakeholders including athletes, coaches, and administrators. The position requires strong leadership, ethical standards, and excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on proactive service and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Athletic Department's NCAA compliance program.
  • Provide guidance on compliance matters to support student athlete and team success.
  • Serve as the Senior Compliance Administrator and main liaison to the NCAA and BSC.
  • Administer a comprehensive rules education program for coaches, staff, and student athletes.
  • Oversee the sports camps approval process for compliance.
  • Collaborate with academic services and athletic department staff on eligibility processes.
  • Maintain the master roster of student-athletes and ensure proper coding in management systems.
  • Monitor participation records for student-athletes to document eligibility.
  • Serve as primary contact for NCAA Transfer Portal and advise on transfer scholarship requirements.
  • Lead the research and submission process for waiver requests.
  • Coordinate with the Athletics Fiscal Officer on athletic financial aid administration.
  • Maintain required squad lists in NCAA Compliance Assistant software.
  • Oversee the National Letter of Intent process for incoming student-athletes.
  • Monitor recruiting activities and compliance with NCAA rules.
  • Investigate and process NCAA rules violations and inquiries.
  • Ensure completion of all required annual NCAA attestations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • At least four years of professional experience in collegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA rules and regulations, particularly related to eligibility.
  • Familiarity with FERPA regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Strong computer and technical skills for utilizing various university systems and databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in Division I athletics compliance.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role.
