About the position

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for two open rank faculty positions. Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, contribute service to the Department, School, and University, and are expected to build an active research program with external funding. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in the areas of advanced semiconductor materials and devices, energy generation and storage, and advanced manufacturing. Areas of research expertise include advanced micro- and nanoelectronics, CMOS extension and beyond CMOS technology, power devices, 3D integration and advanced packaging, semiconductor process development, and materials characterization for semiconductor devices, novel battery materials, fabrication, testing and simulation, materials and novel methodologies for sustainable manufacturing, and incorporation of artificial intelligence or machine learning in materials science research. The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in materials science and engineering.
  • Conduct research in advanced semiconductor materials and devices, energy generation and storage, and advanced manufacturing.
  • Secure external funding for research projects.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research activities.
  • Contribute to departmental, school, and university service activities.
  • Engage in collaborative research with faculty and industry partners.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related discipline is required prior to employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in advanced micro- and nanoelectronics.
